Hunger

I have just dropped 10 kilos. Something that seemed impossible months ago, even weeks ago.

Somehow, I suddenly found the motivation, the self-discipline, the need to finally lose those kilos that had been with me for years.

And it is oddly freeing once you realise you can do it. Once the weight starts to come off, it really does disappear. It slides away, it disintegrates, it melts away.

What changed was my state of mind.

I stopped feeling as though I had no choice. I stopped believing it was somehow normal for my body to be this way. I stopped feeling sorry for myself. I stopped feeling powerless.

And I took control.

That changed everything.

The food, the diet, the protocol, the precise details of what you eat matter far less until you find that state of mind within yourself and become capable of sustaining it. Past the bakery. Beyond the chocolate bar. Outside snack time. You have to reach the point where the decision is already made.

Once you can do that, hunger changes too.

Hunger becomes a badge of honour. A physical reminder that your body is finally reaching into its own resources. You feel that you are using what is already stored instead of constantly adding more. You become more active. You start noticing the changes. You see your body changing and that gives you pride.

And then it gets easier.

That surprised even me.

But now I think I understand the secret.

You have to stop whining at yourself and stop allowing yourself to believe that you are weak. Because you are stronger than you have imagined, and you have qualities you may never have had to tap into before.

I know because I found them in myself.

I am not a victim of my body. I am in control of it.

Try it. Make the decision. Sustain it. See what happens. See how you feel when you realise that you can actually do what you said you would do.

Feel that hunger.

And use it as the fuel it is.

Tofu and pesto

Two delicious vegan recipes that will blow your mind

Pesto – is made from coriander leaf – yes – coriander , and pine nuts, a dash of nutritional yeast salt fenugreek powder and the teensy-est drop of olive oil. The health benefits are great – it’s a very tasty addition to your vegan meals. it keeps in the fridge for several days.

The firm tofu has been dry fried in a non stick pan with garlic ginger and chili, all three first freshly and finely chopped added to the pan with a sprits of olive oil (you can get olive oil in spray bottles now – just for this use)
Then add the firm tofu chunks and let them roast gently turning them over now and then so some sides develop a golden crust – be careful not to let the spices burn – so keep the heat fairly low – enjoy the process, take your time. At the end just before serving add a pinch of salt and a twist of pepper

Prepare your underlying salad – this one is little gem lettuce and plum tomatoes with spring onion all freshly cut.

Simple, delicious, practically oil free and low calorie as well as completely vegan

Enjoy

Here we go again

There comes a time when the diet no longer works
We then – at a given moment – if we are aware – look at ourselves and notice we are not holding onto any kind of diet.
We are not paying any attention at all to what we eat.
We also become annoyingly aware that we have not taken any real exercise for quite some time
and we notice we cannot quite pin down when and how this happened.

This happens to all of us – if we still care about ourselves we immediately pick up on it and start taking care of this again. It always starts with awareness and goes into action – we must act!
Things must change – the panic sets in – when you ask yourself – ‘what have I been eating’ and the answer is ‘I don’t really know’

I’ve been stuffing my face with all kinds of things, some of which I cannot really call ‘food’ I have been swallowing it in vast quantities and in continual snacks – which I cannot call ‘meals’ – and in such amounts the idea of ‘portions’ has escaped to another planet. The shame of it! How could I treat myself this way? What happened to my great resolve, my expert planning my brilliant research? I flounder around wondering what to do to gain control – again, to become aware – again. How do I take stock and manage my health better, like I used to – or like I think I used to.

We all hit this wall, and we never know what happened.
The thing is – we need these moments to bring us up short and help us align with our ‘preferred lifestyle’
The one containing healthy food and healthy exercise – as being unhealthy is not a price we want to pay.

Is it?
